APSP Technical Training courses cover pool and spa structures and finishes, circulation and piping, hydraulics, pumps and pump motors, filters, heaters, chemical safety, water testing and treatment, and more! Each course includes 40 classroom hours and is a requisite to earn the designation of Certified Service Professional (CSP).
APSP Proficiency Exam for APSP Tech I The exam is for experienced individuals who want to bypass the APSP Tech I course. You must have five or more years of experience in the pool and spa industry. It’s a 50-page, one-hour, closed-book written exam based on the APSP Service Tech Manual. Each individual may attempt the proficiency exam only once. If you receive a passing grade on the exam, you will not earn Tech I recognition, but you will be exempt from the Tech I prerequisite for Tech II and will be eligible to enroll immediately in the APSP Tech II course.
APSP Tech I Tech I is the first level of the APSP Service Technician Certification Program. It is open to anyone in the industry. The course curriculum is provided for individuals with zero (0) to five (5) years of experience in the industry. Tech I level provides basic information on pool and spa technology and focuses on the identification of topics and procedures.
APSP Tech II Tech II is the second level of the APSP Service Technician Certification Program. Tech II level is open to all graduates of Tech I. It is also open to individuals who have received a passing grade of 75% or better on the APSP Proficiency Exam. The Tech II level of the program requires students to apply the information they have learned through the Tech I level (and/or their five or more years of experience working in the pool and spa industry) and move into problem solving and troubleshooting applications.

APSP Certified Building Professional (CBP) APSP builder members who fall into one of the following categories concerning their relation to their respective firms may apply for certification: Owners/Principals, Operators/Executives or Managers involved in the business side of the firm. The CBP exam is closed-book, 4-hours and 150 multiple-choice questions.
APSP Certified Service Professional (CSP) Once you have completed Tech II and earned 40 technical elective credit hours through participation in APSP approved education programs, you can sit for the APSP Certified Exam. The exam is based on the Basic Pool & Spa Technology, 3rd edition textbook (APSP Service Tech Manual).
